Where is the Tower of London?

Tower Bridge is located right next to the Tower of London on the north bank of the River Thames. The address is London, EC3N 4AB. It sits right on the edge of the London borough of Tower Hamlets, next to the City of London.

Ticket and security check lines form outside the west gate of the Tower of London, which is on the west side of the building. In this area you’ll also find the ticket shop.

Getting to the Tower of London

You can reach the Tower of London by rail, underground, bus, and even boat!

  • Tube: Tower Hill is the nearest tube station to the Tower of London, and it is served by both the District and Circle lines.The Tower of London is about a five-minute walk away.
  • Public bus: Bus services 15, 42, 78, 100 and RV1 all stop near the Tower of London.
  • Boat: Tower Pier is the departure point for Thames River Boats servicing the river upstream and downstream. London Passes include a Thames River Boat day pass, as well as admission to the Tower of London.
  • Train: London Bridge Station is about 15 minutes walk from the Tower of London. Walking from Liverpool Street Station takes around 20 minutes.

Originally built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, the Tower of London has served many purposes throughout its long history. Originally intended as a symbol of Norman power, it later served as a royal residence, a prison, and a treasury.
